Honduras:.Honduras is a country that stands out for its Caribbean beaches, considered as a power in marine natural resources, and has one of the most important, and diverse coral reefs in the world. Has an area of 112,492 square kilometers, and a population of 9.1 million inhabitants, between mestizo, whites, and one of the countries with the largest population of African descent. The capital city is Tegucigalpa, and is located in the center of the country, but it's noteworthy to mention that the highest concentration of population in the country is mainly living in the western area, a reason why Tegucigalpa is outside the reach of touristic interest. San Pedro Sula it's located in the north-western part of the country, and it's the industrial city, it has warm climate, and has a pleasant contemporary development, thanks to the city's strategic planning since the last few decades. The city of San Pedro Sula is located one hour from the country's main port, Puerto Cortez, an important city with lots of touristic interest, as it's a significant connection from the country's south to its Caribbean Coast. Honduras has three international airports. One is located in the capital city of Honduras, another one is in San Pedro Sula, and the last one is in the Island of Roatan. There are other airports, and local airstrips in tourist, and agricultural locations, such as the one in the island of Utila, La Ceiba, and Copan Ruins. Airports that can be accessed by local flights. Because of its geographical location, Honduras is part of the Northern Triangle, and therefore a meaningful role in the Mayan World History. One of the most interesting, cultural and historic touristic attractions is the archeological site of Copan Park. Besides the Mayan History there are other attractions, such as the Bay Islands; with are Roatán Island, Útila Island, and Guanaja Island. Also, important ports and towns besides Puerto Cortez, such as Tela, La Ceiba, and Trujillo. The tourists that transit through Honduras come in a large amount from Antigua Guatemala, and El Tunco Beach in El Salvador, and most of them go first to Copan Park, from there they travel to the north, looking for the Caribbean Coast until reaching the city of La Ceiba, and from there they embark to a journey that takes them to the Bay Islands, or to connect to other ports in the Caribbean side of Guatemala, or Belize. Because of the distances and the difficult roads and connections, many visitors that travel the touristic corridor of Central America, decide to travel by air directly to the Bay Islands, landing either in Roatán, or Utila. Some others, heading to Nicaragua, decide to avoid visiting the Bay Islands in Honduras, and take direct shuttles, or flights to the Caribbean Coast of Nicaragua from El Salvador. Even though, visiting the Bay Islands in Honduras is a destination worth to travel, we recommend it because of the Garifuna Culture, totally different from others in the region. And, its marine natural resources, worth studying, diving, and enjoying. This Caribbean part of Central America stands out, without a doubt, from other coast parts in the region. |
