Nicaragua:.Nicaragua is one of the countries with the greatest tourist development in recent years, the increase in visitors in the last 10 years exceeds the growth of other destinations within the region, possibly because Nicaragua borders with Costa Rica, the latest being the country with the greatest tourism development in Central America, and also, having a reputation of being a safe place for its visitors and tourists, these facts makes international tourists feel more confident to decide travel to this country. However, Nicaragua is one of the smallest economies in the region, and considered alongside Honduras the poorest countries of Central America. But it is one of the richest in natural resources since it's the country with the lowest population density. Its area of land - square kilometers in contrast to its only 3 million inhabitants, makes it a place with many unexplored destinations, and pitifully a few of this destinations are difficult to access, specially the ones in the middle of the country. However, in the last few years there has been an important development in the roads that connect most of towns along the Pacific Coast. The population settlement of Nicaragua is to the south around the great lake of Nicaragua, the biggest one in Central America, and along the Pacific Coast, this is probably the reason why much of the Caribbean area has difficult access and communication. Managua it's the capital city of the country, and also where the international airport is located, Aeropuerto Internacional Augusto C. Sandino. Most of its main cities and towns are quite close to Managua, being one of the most important the city of Granada, because of the amount of tourists that visit it, and followed by the cities of Leon, and Rivas. As a tourist destination, the country offers similar attractions as the other Central American countries, although it does not have Pre-Columbian and archaeological destinations because it's not part of the Central American Maya region, but offers a Caribbean side, easily compared with the beautiful island of Honduras, and also a side in the Pacific, that could be compared with El Salvador. The difference is that the distances are longer. Its geography, just like the other Central American countries, offer mountains, volcanoes and lakes. The colonial towns and its lakes are very unique because of its beauty and history. Its main touristic attractions are the colonial cities of Granada and Leon, also, the Nicaraguan Lake, which has an island inside, Island of Ometepe, in the Pacific side has the town of San Juan del Sur, and the Caribbean side has the amazing town of Bluefields and in the Atlantic Ocean are the Corn Islands, known internationally as Big Corn Island and Little Corn Island. |
