PUERTO DE LA LIBERTAD
The port of La Libertad is a tourist place with a long history beginning in the colonial period. La Libertad was the first port in El Salvador, here is a little history: the region was first mentioned by Pedro Cortez in the middle of the 18th century as part of a large finca, before being called Puerto de La Libertad in 1824 by the Federal Republic of Central America As a village was founded. Thus, La Libertad was qualified for authorization in 1831. This was the beginning of foreign trade on the Pacific coast for El Salvador. And in 1857 came the first steamship, 30 years later the construction of a pier was authorized and La Libertad got its title as a small town (villa). Almost one hundred years later in 1957, the "Puerto de la Libertad" finally got its municipal right.
