Maya-Archäologie in El Salvador
Central America is the core of the Mundo Maya, the Mayan world. There are many different archaeological sites in Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras which can be visited. You can spend a complete holiday (or just single days) in search of the historical excavations, in the footsteps of the pre-Columbian peoples of the region. Learn more about their traditions and culture, or visit the ceremonial centers such as Tikal, Tazumal or ancient civilizations in places like Copan, San Andrés and the Ceren ruins.
The visit to the archaeological sites is a very good option for day activities and day trips to any destination in El Salvador, visiting various archaeological sites such as Tazumal, San Andrés and Joya de Ceren. One of the popular travel destinations is the Copan ruins in Honduras, or Guatemala "Tikal", one of the ceremonial centers, the ancient Mayan culture.
In the archaeological tour here in El Salvador, we visit three excavation sites in the central area. We start the tour into the fantastic locality of Joya de Ceren, known as Pompeii of Central America. In a great volcanic eruption it was buried under a large ash layer, but it was also preserved and rediscovered only a few years later. We continue to the pre-Columbian Indian village of San Andres, where you can study the simple life of the Mayan people and look at the houses that have been petrified for centuries. Finally, the tour will take you to the old Tazumal Ceremony Center and its museum. The tour ends with the Archeology Museum "David J Guzman" in San Salvador and after a dinner in the city the tour ends.
